Christmas Markets: WeihnachtsmarktPatti - 03. Januar 2018

This year, Christmas took place where my parents live in the Thüringian forest of Germany. My sister, Julie, and her husband, Stephen, flew over to spend Christmas with my parents and my family. Miriam loved having so many people around, and Stephen enjoyed his first visit to Germany! Photo credit for all the pictures in this post goes to Stephen and Julie.

Christmas markets take place all over Europe, and we visited one of the biggest, located in Erfurt, Germany. We decided to park a few kilometers away and take the street car into the city center.

The markets are known for delicious food and beautiful products, such as pottery, wooden ornaments, leatherwork, and so much more! Every other food booth sells bratwurst...

One of the special products is the Weihnachtsmarkt mug. At any of the multiple booths selling coffee, hot chocolate, and Glühwein (an alcoholic punch), you can ask for your beverage to be served in one of the market mugs for an extra 2 euros. My mom has started collecting these since they are such an inexpensive and fun souvenir.

We discovered a few good deals this year, but mostly we spent our time enjoying the Christmas atmosphere (and walking in circles trying to find each other since only one of us had a working phone). No Christmastime trip to Europe is complete without at least one visit to a Weihnachtsmarkt!

I was so happy the Weinachtsmarkt was still there for us! It was definitely an amazing experience!
